NZ Government Business: Centres Of Expertise To Negotiate Govt Contracts

October 29th, 2009

Reforms to Govt procurement, aimed at achieving significant cost savings, will set up specialist teams in new Centres of Expertise to negotiate all-of-Govt contracts. The first Centres of Expertise are to be in the Dept of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Economic Development, the former to focus on all-of-Govt contracts for IT equipment, and the latter for passenger vehicles and stationery. Economic Development Minister Gerry Brownlee says the first all-of-Govt contracts are expected to be in place by June 2010. By consolidating expenditure and leading contract _negotiations these CoEs could achieve 5-10% cost savings, if the experience of other jurisdictions is a guide. All public and state service agencies will be required to use all-of-Govt contracts.
